The Great Wall of China

Updated: Dec 19, 2019

It was certainly amazing to see the great wall of China. It was actually a series of fortified walls with watch towers built by different dynasties. It was built to protect China from invaders especially the Mongols. Total length is said to approximate 20,000 kilometers and completed for a period 22 centuries and built by millions.

Unfortunately, most of the great wall sections built before the Ming dynasty have almost disappeared due to adverse natural conditions and human activities. The Great Wall of China is also believed to be the most haunted locations in the world. Over the course of the centuries and during the construction period and wars , millions of people died and buried within the walls. No wonder, many tourists have seen apparitions walking the wall and hearing marching foot steps but seeing no people.

Becky actually felt suddenly ill during the visit. She was complaining of nausea and headache and she was feeling as if somebody was inside her. She just decided to stay at the lower grounds and did not join us in walking through the wall. Becky was really scared and only felt better when we left the area.

After the Great Wall, we had the chance to go to Tiananmen Square. This was the place where one Chinese national stood in the way of a column of tanks. This was the iconic image that symbolized the student led protests in 1989. A short walk from the Tiananmen square was the Forbidden city, also known as the Imperial Palace Museum where the history of every dynasty is represented in four Palatial Halls.

Our last stop was at the famous pearl and silk markets and not surprisingly, Becky had to buy and they were not cheap. We went to those places looking for bargains but ended getting really expensive set of pearls and silk.
