Playwright Bienvenido M. Noriega, Jr. wrote another one-act Palanca award winning play in 1977.
National Artist nominee and a literary giant, Jose Dalisay, Jr. wrote in his thesis: “Kanluran, a gentle two character comedy catches an old couple at a moment of doubt – were 38 years of togetherness worth it? And resolves the question affirmatively, if a mite too cutely (gilding the lily) given the combination of a fetching story and Noriega’s lyricism”
“There is arguably no more outstanding figure in Philippine playwrighting today than Bienvenido M. Noriega, Jr.. This conclusion is suggested not only by the record number of major literary awards Noriega has won for his drama, but also – and more importantly – by the frequency with which his plays have been produced and generally the positive reception that has set their presentation. These, for the dramatist, provide the true test and reward of the craft, and Noriega has been both well tested and amply rewarded”
