Day 7 - Best of Northern Europe

Updated: Jan 18, 2021

We had unusually rough seas last night. Our itinerary was re-routed again due to severe weather conditions in the North Sea. We woke up to big waves and strong winds early in the morning. It was a little scary but prayers calmed us down. We just thought that this is a very huge ship and no way it can sink. Well, that was what everyone said about the unsinkable Titanic. At least, there are no icebergs in this area Again, we have been treated with Pinoy breakfast by our kababayan cook and servers. This time, it was Porksilog and we were joined by other fellow Pinoys from LA. It was different today as we immersed ourselves in a day of mystery and antiquity. We took the excursion to Stonehenge which until now is still the most intriguing ancient site in UK. Who built them 4500 years ago and how - is shrouded with mystery. They say perhaps people from the future or from another world. The stones weighed 40 to 80 tons and could have been taken at least 30 kms from the site. Amazingly, they were put on top of each other without any machines 4500 years ago. They say that Stonehenge is an ancient temple alligned on the movement of the sun. And as we got off the tour bus on our way to Stonehenge, rain poured out heavily and the gust of wind was so strong that we could barely move forward. Unknowingly, I dropped my glasses and learned that I lost it only when we were already at the pick up point. Fortunately, one of the bus drivers found it. Holiday disaster was just avoided and a reminder again that age is catching up on me. Jokingly, we thought we could be like the outlanders that if we manage to put our hands in the stone, we will be transported in time to the medieval era. We continued with our tour steeped in the spell of ancient times by visiting the medieval town of Salisbury. We got into the Salisbury Cathedral which is one of the finest churches in Britain dating back to the 13th century. After a short rest, we watched another theatre show depicting dancers and acts during the days of Cleopatra and the Roman Empire. The most excitement however was saved for the last. And what can be more exhilarating and rousing than Karaoke night? The best singers of Team Abby have not been able to join us in this cruise but still, no one may come close to our Abby singers. What a day and what a night it will be!
