We docked today in the island of Phuket, Thailand. We woke up early at about 4;25 am and I thought that it was the splash of the waves I was hearing. Humihikbi pala si Becky and she was mumbling “Gusto ko nang umuwi” at umiiyak. Medyo napagod, masakit ang katawan at miss na niya ang mga anak at si apo Braeden.
This is probably the law of diminishing returns. We have seen so many beautiful places that new places seem less alluring now. less enticing and the excitement much abated. There are also many challenges of getting older so more of the sakit sakit sa tuhod , paa, baywang etc. I have to remind her that she needs to be healthier and strong as there are 2 more continents in our bucket list - South America and Antarctica. And in fact, we are already booked for a 23 night cruise in South America in October this year and perhaps do a side trip as well to Antarctica to play with the penguins to fulfill our bucket list. “Someday” is no longer in our vocabulary. We are done with “somedays”. If we want to do something, write something or go somewhere, we do it now as someday may not even come to us.
Anyway, everything got better after we had a FaceTime with Kiwi, Kisha and our adorable apo Braeden. We went for a quick breakfast and arranged for wheel chair assistance up to gangway to ride on the tender to the shore. Lucky for Becky, a pinoy gangway assistant was able to secure a wheelchair and cut short her walk to the bus for our panoramic tour of Phuket Island We visited Chalong Temple, a historical landmark and largest and most revered Buddhist temple in Phuket. Our next stop was a cashew factory then Gems Gallery, reputed to be the world’s largest jewelry store. Unlike in a Beijing jewelry shop where Becky bought a $500 dollar pearl necklace, she decided to stay in the bus this time as she was too tired. Or perhaps, she realizes now that she already has the only gem she needs and he is seated beside her - hehehe.
We continued the panoramic tour of the streets of Phuket and through the side roads adjacent to the beaches of Phuket. Phuket is a beautiful place with a very welcoming and warm people. The Royal Caribbean shore excursion staff were kind and helpful and they did their best to make Becky comfortable and even seated us at the front of the bus. Medyo mas maganda nga lang ang El Nido or Boracay natin. Kulang lang talaga tayo sa marketing. There are so many destinations and places of interests in the Philippines that are at par with the world’s best. The Phuket town itself is like Dasmarinas, Cavite or Naga Para ka lang umiikot sa probinsiya natin. Nothing like Pinas pa rin
We went back to the ship for a very late lunch and a much needed power nap. We will have our early dinner as usual and will watch tonight. the headliner show - Kate Lindeman’s “Imagine”dubbed as a celebration of music
