We had a very early start today being out in the open game reserve at 5 in the morning. The world seemed to have awaken with us. From dead silence during the night, one starts to be gradually aware of the outside surroundings and one's senses start to pick up the beginning of the day with the rushing river flow, rustling of the tree leaves, birds chirping, game animals running wild and sensing them all together gets to be like a symphony of animal sounds. The air is so fresh that you like to gulp as much as you can. And as the sun slowly rising and its rays shining on your face, you get to realize your own insignificance and the immenseness around you and exclaim that it is really a beautiful world and there must be a God who created such beauty in nature
We took another Safari route this time and started out looking for the elephants but what we found instead are the zebras, giraffes, rhinoceros, kudus, ostrich, blesbok, impala, etc. The reserve at 200,000 acres is so huge that even for elephants who usually move around, you are like looking for a needle in a haystack. At least in this game reserve, the animals are not used to humans yet so they scamper as you get near them. One has to be quick with his camera to take those perfect shots.
Again, it was a unique experience having early morning coffee in the wild. Somehow, the hot coffee tasted better with the aroma of the coffee blending with the freshness of the air. It was even more enjoyable with snippets coming from our ranger guide Tandy on how to track the animals with their poops or with broken branches. There was just too much laughter along the way and our ranger guide had to caution us sometimes to keep quiet as it gets unforeseen reaction from some beasts but one husband quipped that he does not feel any danger at all especially if he is with his wife as he runs faster - heh heh heh
After almost 4 hours roaming around, Becky needs to do a "number one". We were in rhinoceros country but she had to go. What a brave soul she is or perhaps when necessity calls, it was just too much to resist. So there she was at the back of the vehicle with us looking the other way around but on the lookout for rhinoceros, leopards and snakes. And she did it near a bush and in a way she claimed a piece of Safari land. Game animals are very territorial and mark their areas with their discharges and will fight anyone trespassing. But Becky was unmindful and unknowingly did mark her territory. Now we know she " owns" a piece of a reserve territory that game animals will sense and respect - heh heh heh.
