Today was the last day of our River/Land tour that covered 8 countries of Eastern Europe and what a perfect way to end it in Prague as it is perhaps the most beautiful city in the whole of Europe.
We started the day with a short walk to St Jude Thaddeus Church where we lighted some candles for our prayer petitions. We had lunch in an Asian restaurant to satisfy our craving for rice then arranged for a 3 hour private tour of the city of Prague in the afternoon.
Prague will be forever etched in our minds. You need a few days to soak in its beauty, culture and charm. It has been captivating and enchanting to experience the city in all its old world elegance. Everywhere you look, the buildings stand in its old glory, well preserved and breathes of rich history and holiness with saints and religious figures and icons that adorn the city. Prague's beauty is in its mixed architectural style and colour unique to the city.
The Charles Bridge is a pedestrian tourist attraction and so charming with all the adornment of religious figures and icons. This stone bridge is a 14th century masterpiece that links the 2 sides of Prague over the Vitava River. As described by writers, the best fairy tale view of Prague is from Charles Bridge. Very true, it is so enchanting and magical to look from this vantage point. There are 75 statues that lined the bridge but they all look like originals but they are not, just copies and were all reconstructed from floods and catastrophes over the centuries.
The Prague Castle is massive and simply beautiful. We were lucky to be there at the time of the "Changing of the Guards" just like in London's Buckingham Palace. Inside the castle is St Vitus Cathedral, Prague' s most distinct structure that defines Prague's skyline. St Vitus Cathedral is even more beautiful inside. The Prague Castle complex has many other buildings but everywhere you look in the city, you see St. Vitus spires, "a Gothic masterpiece, and the spiritual symbol of the Czech state." The cathedral was commissioned by Charles the IVth in 1344 and took almost 6 centuries to complete.
Prague also has an Eiffel Tower, a smaller scale of the real tower in Paris. It is accessible by foot through a winding stairs and a lift is available for those who cannot endure the heights. We opted to sit by and watch as we are not comfortable in heights, also the fact that I was already feeling tired.
The last stop was the Old Town Square....possibly one of the most beautiful town squares we have ever seen. The square was bustling with everything nice, astronomical clock, figures and icons, flowers, restaurants, music playing, horse drawn carriages, sightseeing vehicles, especially vintage open cars, and most of all people from various nationalities standing in awe at the beautiful surrounding. And of course, the most expensive street of Prague where we parked, just like Vancouver's Robson Street where you will find signature and branded shops.
We will miss the places we have seen as much as we have enjoyed being in these sites even for a short time. Places that existed in the past only in our dreams and in photos we see in magazines. Tomorrow, we go back home to Vancouver...our home where our loved ones are waiting for us. We may have just seen all these beautiful places but we can not be more excited than spending an afternoon with our apo Braeden in Stanley park. As the cliche goes - there is nothing like home and home is where your loved ones are!
