Playwright Bienvenido M. Noriega, Jr. wrote so many award winning plays during his short life. His plays were probably the most staged in the 70s up to the 90s. This play was another Palanca prize winning play in 1978 where playwright Bienvenido M. Noriega, Jr. deliberately wrote in Chekhovian manner.
Jose Dalisay, a multi-awarded writer wrote that “Ang mga Propesyonal is a play spanning eleven years in the lives of a family of six professionals, is distinguished like its models by its quietude, its domesticity and the predominance of character over plot in the dramatic action. The play’s overt conflict involves the disposal of the family farmland which stands , throughout the play as a metaphor for the family itself; tradition, duty and responsibility are matched against the right to individual happiness, immediate relief and an individually -determined future.
Ang mga Propesyonal yields its optimisn with exceeding spareness – but it is there, in coming to terms with a world of many ordinary men tending to indulgence and of a few supermen, tending to unhappiness, an even view, all told.”
The play was staged in CCP in 1979 and re-staged by Dulaang Palanca in 1980. It was directed by Sonia Roco.
